Diversity

Posted on 1 August 2014

Diversity Since the opening of the website I have presented the values of the school, specifically Equity, Excellence, and Integrity.

What is diversity?

Diversity is a commitment to recognizing and appreciating the unique beliefs, values, skills, attributes, and characteristics of all people in an environment that promotes and celebrates individual and collective achievement.

Deliberate actions to celebrate diversity at Taupo Primary School include:

  • Learning about the Treaty of Waitangi and how we can honour the principles of the Treaty at Taupo Primary

  • -Class treaties, and learning  all about the individuals  (where students are  born, where students comes from, their interest, their  family interest)

  • The   school rule: Respect self, respect others and respect the environment

  • Greetings – different languages displayed in the foyer, and on the school notice board

  • Honouring different nationalities at assembly

  • We have an excellent ESOL programme for students who speak other languages,

  • Differentiated programmes – special programmes, GATE, (Gifted and Talented) Te Reo, Music, SENCO (Special Education Needs Co-ordinator. We believe that all students must be able to access the resources they need to learn

  • Our learning celebrations

  • Our parent partnership/Meet the teacher

  • Our strong participation in the Tuwharetoa festival – Kapa Haka

  • Individual learning goals

I feel that Taupo primary celebrate diversity really well. Further more, we are always looking for ways to continue to do so. It is all about awareness and opportunities.
