Taupo Primary School - Hooked on Learning

Nau mai haere mai te Taupō Kura!  Welcome to Taupō School. We are a large, decile 5, contributing school (Years 1-6).  We have over 20 classrooms, a large hall, netball courts, library, two play zones (senior and junior) some covered and some uncovered. Taupō School is situated on land gifted by the Ngāti Tūwharetoa people for the purpose of education.

Taupō School is located in the central township of Taupō and is the oldest school in the area marking 125 years in 2019. The Education Review Office has identified the school as successful. Please go to www.ero.govt.nz/ to read the last report.

Our classrooms consist of both single cell and open plan spaces. The school has three syndicates Nga Kakano (Y1-2), Kaitiaki O Te Whenua (Y3-4) and Tuakana Tauhara (Y5-6).

The Nga Kakano team have a collaborative community where they work together in a play based zone. In each of the classrooms, there are smaller rooms/offices, which we often use to work alongside our students who require extra support or to provide extra programmes.

In term 3 2018 we began reviewing our school curriculum towards becoming a S.T.E.A.M school. We are scientists, sportspeople, environmental contributors, musicians, artists, designers and movie makers to name a few. We celebrate by being ‘HOOKED ON LEARNING’ and ensure that our school culture promotes inclusivity, opportunities, challenges and skills required of a 21st-century learner.

The school is well resourced for all areas of the curriculum. We have a strong digital programme throughout the school and all classrooms have sets of iPads. The senior school (Y5-6) have five 1:1 digital classrooms working within the cloud. All devices are provided for our tamariki. The Board of Trustees and the P.T.A. are generous supporters of student learning.

We hope you enjoy your learning journey with the school and that in doing so you become involved in our school community. We highly value successful partnerships with all our families and whānau.

As you read through the pages on our website it is our hope that you will be able to learn more about our community of learners and see evidence of what makes Taupō School a truly vibrant, warm and supportive environment in which to learn and work. We welcome a visit from you to see our school in action.
